What to Wear in Barcelona in October

Dress for the downpour, not the forecast. AEMET's figures for Barcelona Airport give October afternoons of 22°C / 72°F, nights of 13.5°C and 91mm of rain, the highest total of any month, yet only about 6 days reach a millimetre. So the rain comes in bursts, and almost three days in October bring thunder. AEMET's blog explains why: the DANA, an isolated low in the upper atmosphere, arrives in autumn over a sea that is still warm, and the warm water feeds the storm. Between storms the city runs bright, with 182 hours of sun across the month. Pack for a warm day, then make everything that touches the ground survive water: a rubber sole, a jacket that sheds a shower, an umbrella you carry even when the sky is blue.

By the last week sunset comes at about six, and pale grey wide legs over the sneakers carry you from a morning of 48h Open House BCN buildings on 24 and 25 October to dinner in Sant Antoni. Grey pairs with camel, cream and white without a second thought.

   Start the capsule from the ground.
