Istanbul sits, in GoTürkiye's words, at the crossroads of two continents, Europe and Asia, and the dressing register reflects it. In working mosques the rules come from the mosque and from Diyanet: Sultanahmet asks visitors to cover what worship requires, in the courtyard as well as inside, and lends clothing from a booth, and Diyanet's etiquette is plain that shoes come off at the door, women cover their hair and men wear no shorts above the knee.
