NOAA NCEI's daily record for SMN's Cancún station gives October 242mm over about 13 rain days, more than any other month, with afternoons at 31.3°C and nights at 22.9°C. About four days in an average October bring 20mm or more, and the totals swing: 61mm in 1994, 500mm in 2011. NOAA places most of the Atlantic hurricane season's activity between mid-August and mid-October, though its 2026 outlook gave a 55% chance of a below-normal year. SMN's cold-front season has begun as well. Pack fabric that dries by dinner, a shell that folds small and shoes you can walk through a puddle in.

07White rubber clogs, heel strapRubber does not mind water. Clogs rinse clean after a wet walk, grip a pool deck, and the heel strap keeps them on through a puddle. Keep them for daytime: the runners go to dinner.
08Grey quick-dry mesh runnersClosed shoes for a restaurant in the rain and a festival crowd. The municipality counted more than 60,000 people at Janal Pixan in 2024, standing on a waterfront at night. Mesh lets water out instead of holding it, so the pair is dry again by the next evening.

NOAA NCEI's GHCN-Daily record for Cancún station MXN00023155, which SMN operates, gives October an average high of 31.3°C and a low of 22.9°C over 21 Octobers from 1991 to 2012, with 242mm of rain and about 13 days of 1mm or more. On the same record September averages 178mm and November 114mm. Totals swing widely, from 61mm in 1994 to 500mm in 2011. The coolest October night in the record was 15°C, on 4 October 1995. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November, and NOAA counts mid-August to mid-October as its peak, the weeks that hold 78% of its tropical-storm days and 96% of its major-hurricane days. Sunset moves from about 6:36pm on 1 October to 6:13pm on the 31st.

Janal Pixan, Maya for food of the souls, is the Benito Juárez municipality's Day of the Dead festival. In 2025 it ran from 30 October to 2 November at Puerto Juárez, the Parque de las Palapas and Los Olivos cemetery, with the Puerto Juárez programme from 6pm to 11pm, a procession of catrinas arriving from the sea and free shuttles from Malecón Tajamar and El Crucero. The 2026 festival is expected on the same dates, 30 October to 2 November, but the municipality had not confirmed them by late September. Wear closed shoes that shrug off a wet waterfront, carry the shell, and dress for a 23°C night: the sundress, or the silk top with the drawstring trousers.
Early October is warmer; late October has the festival. Split NOAA NCEI's record at mid-month and the first half averages 31.9°C by day against 30.7°C in the second, with about six or seven rain days in each half. The first half still sits inside what NOAA counts as the peak of the hurricane season, which it closes in mid-October; the season itself runs to 30 November. Mexico has no federal rest day in October, while Columbus Day on Monday 12 October gives US visitors a long weekend. For the beach, check SEMAR's sargassum bulletin: by 15 November 2025 it measured only 32 tonnes across the whole Mexican Caribbean, with the alert at low.
November is drier and a little cooler. On the same NOAA NCEI record, November averages 29.5°C by day and 21.4°C at night, with 114mm of rain over about 8 days of 1mm or more, against October's 31.3°C, 22.9°C and 242mm over about 13. Our November guide quotes SMN's own normal for the station, 30.3°C, 22.3°C and 131mm, which runs warmer and wetter and includes the years after 2012, where NOAA's record stops. On either source November needs less rain gear. It also ends the hurricane season on the 30th and brings the first nortes.
Quick-dry clothes by day and, at the end of the month, catrinas. The municipality's 2025 Janal Pixan programme brought a procession of catrinas in from the sea at Puerto Juárez. For the Yucatán's own dress, Mérida's city council describes the three-piece terno, whose hand-embroidered version takes about six months to make, and an everyday hipil with a printed strip at the hem in place of embroidery. On 18 March 2024 the Yucatán state congress declared Maya-Yucatec embroidery part of the state's intangible cultural heritage.
