What to Wear in Cancún in February
Cancún in February: 29°C / 84°F afternoons, 20°C / 68°F nights, and the dry season settled well before Easter.

Pack for sun and a breeze. NOAA NCEI's daily record for SMN's Cancún station gives February 29.3°C by day and 19.8°C at night, with 59mm of rain over about four days, half of January's total; March and April run drier still. February rain is rarely heavy, and fewer than one day in thirty brings 20mm. The cold-front season, which SMN runs to May, has not finished, so a late front still raises a red flag and drops a night toward the station's February low of 11.7°C. Put the swimsuit and the hat in first, then a cardigan for the two or three nights under 16°C.
February is the month Cancún's dry season settles in. Pack for the sun first and the rain hardly at all, and keep one layer for the nights a late front blows through.

01Soft coral scoop-neck bikiniSwim, and check the flag first. Cancún's municipal water-safety code defines a red flag as entry prohibited, and a late cold front still raises one. A scoop-neck bralette top with wide straps and a mid-rise bottom stays put in the chop a front leaves behind, and soft coral picks up the hibiscus on the shirt.

A camp collar and short sleeves let air through at 29.3°C, and the turquoise ground with coral hibiscus carries both colours of the capsule, so everything else stays plain.
03White cotton-linen drawstring shortsDry-season days are for walking: the Hotel Zone beaches, Mercado 28 in El Centro, the Ultramar ferry from Puerto Juárez to Isla Mujeres. Drawstring shorts pull on over the bikini and stay cool at 29°C, and white is the plain half of the print.
04Coral knee-length drawstring dressFor dinner, and for Valentine's Day, which falls on a Sunday in 2027. A cotton-modal dress with a drawstring waist packs flat and shakes out without an iron, the short sleeves suit a 20°C evening with the cardigan over them, and a knee length walks well in a Carnaval crowd.

A textured cotton cardigan goes over the coral dress after a sunset near 6:45pm, and over the shirt on a breezy ferry deck. Cotton, not wool: most nights are still 20°C.
06Dark brown woven-leather huarachesLeather sandals belong to the dry season, when they won't spend the week wet. Woven leather on a flat sole walks the sand, the ferry dock and a dinner without a closed-shoe rule, the buckled back strap keeps them on over uneven paving, and dark brown hides the sand.
07Round wicker basket bagAn open basket suits the driest months, when nothing inside needs keeping out of the rain. It takes a towel, the cardigan for the ride back and the biodegradable sunscreen the marine park requires, and the single handle hooks over a beach-bar chair.
08Wide-brim straw hat with a chin cordCENAPRED, Mexico's disaster-prevention agency, advises a hat with loose, light clothing against the sun, and February's clear skies give you plenty of it. A wide flat brim shades your neck on the beach, and the black chin cord holds the hat on the ferry when the wind gets up.

The coolest February night in the record was 11.7°C, on 7 February 1998. SMN's own normal for the station gives February 30.1°C, 20.6°C and 59.3mm: the same dry month, a little warmer. SMN's cold-front season runs to May, so a late front still brings wind. Sunset moves from about 6:36pm on 1 February to 6:51pm on the 28th.

The Benito Juárez municipality held Carnaval Cancún 2026 in the days up to Shrove Tuesday, 17 February. It had not published 2027 dates by late September, but on the same pattern the celebrations run in the days up to Tuesday 9 February 2027, the date New Orleans & Company gives for that year's Mardi Gras; Ash Wednesday is the 10th. For a Carnaval night in a street crowd, wear the coral dress, or the print shirt with the white shorts, with sandals whose back strap keeps them on, and take the cardigan for a 20°C night. Mexico's Constitution Day comes first, with Monday 1 February a federal rest day and a long weekend for Mexican families.
Late February is warmer and drier. Split NOAA NCEI's record at mid-month and the second half averages 29.8°C by day and 20.2°C at night, against 28.7°C and 19.3°C in the first, with 22mm of rain against 36mm. The first half holds Mexico's Constitution Day long weekend (Monday 1 February) and, on 2026's pattern, Carnaval in the days up to 9 February; the second opens with Washington's Birthday, the US federal holiday, on Monday 15 February. Easter falls on 28 March in 2027, so Holy Week lands in late March either way.
February is drier by almost half and a little warmer by day. On the same NOAA NCEI record, January averages 28.1°C by day and 19.3°C at night with 108mm of rain over about 7 days of 1mm or more; February, 29.3°C and 19.8°C with 59mm over about 4. Our January guide quotes SMN's own normal for the station, 28.7°C, 20°C and 103.8mm over about 11 rain days, which includes the years after 2012, where NOAA's record stops, and SMN puts February at 59.3mm. On either source January is the cool, wet end of winter and February is where the dry season settles. Both still want a layer after dark.
Resort clothes by day, and Yucatán straw on top. Mérida's city council describes the mestizo's white hat of jipi or palmilla straw, made in Ticul and Halachó, and an everyday hipil with a printed strip at the hem in place of embroidery. The Yucatán state congress declared Maya-Yucatec embroidery part of the state's intangible cultural heritage in March 2024. To buy a hipil or a guayabera, Mercado 28 in El Centro, which says it has been part of Cancún for more than 40 years, sells handmade crafts and traditional clothing.
