What to Wear in Mexico City in February
Mexico City in February: 25°C / 77°F afternoons, 10°C / 50°F dawns, the widest daily swing of the year and almost no rain.

Pack for fifteen degrees between breakfast and lunch. NOAA NCEI's daily record for the Tacubaya observatory, 1991 to 2020, gives February 24.8°C by day and 9.6°C at dawn, the widest daily range of any month in that record, with about 1 rain day. The first half runs cooler than the second, 23.7°C against 25.9°C by day. Clear air has a cost. SEDEMA says the altitude adds about 20% to the ultraviolet and dates the start of ozone season to the second half of February, and in mid-February 2026 the megalopolis environmental commission, CAMe, declared a Phase I ozone contingency. So a denim jacket and a knit for 8am, a white shirt and sunglasses for 1pm, and runs before 10am.
February gives Mexico City its widest day of the year: a jacket at breakfast, shirtsleeves at the art fair, and the first lilac on the avenues by the end of the month.

NOAA NCEI's daily record for the Tacubaya observatory, 1991 to 2020, gives an average February high of 24.8°C and a low of 9.6°C, a 15-degree daily range that is the widest of any month in that record, just ahead of March, with about 1 rain day. SMN's own normal for the observatory, which our January guide uses, gives February 24.3°C, 9.5°C and about 2 rain days. SEDEMA dates the start of ozone season to the second half of February. Sunset moves from about 6:28pm on 1 February to 6:41pm on the 28th.

Dress for a long day on foot indoors and a cold start outside: flat laced shoes, a bag that closes and sits in front, a shirt with sleeves, and a light jacket for the morning, when it is about 10°C.
Early February for events, late February for warmth. The month opens with Constitution Day on Monday 1 February, a federal rest day, Candelaria tamales on Tuesday the 2nd and Zona Maco from the 3rd to the 7th; in 2026 the Museo Nacional de Culturas Populares in Coyoacán held its Feria del Tamal from 29 January to 2 February. NOAA's record puts the first half at 23.7°C by day and 8.8°C at dawn and the second at 25.9°C and 10.4°C, and Milenio's 2026 guide expects the first jacarandas from mid-to-late February. The trade-off is air: SEDEMA dates ozone season from the second half of the month.
February is warmer at both ends of the day. In the same NOAA record, January averages 22.3°C by day and 7.8°C at dawn, against February's 24.8°C and 9.6°C, and both months are nearly dry. SMN's normals, which our January guide uses, give January 22.2°C and 8.3°C, the coldest dawns of the year. January has Día de Reyes and the rosca; February settles the bill at Candelaria, when whoever found the doll in the rosca on 6 January owes the tamales, Mexico's agriculture ministry explains.
Denim and a knit until eleven, then shirtsleeves. By the end of the month the colour on the street comes from the trees: Milenio's history of the jacarandas credits Tatsugoro Matsumoto, a Japanese gardener, with proposing them for the city's avenues in place of cherry trees during Pascual Ortiz Rubio's presidency, 1930 to 1932. Borrow the palette: lilac, white and faded denim suit a month that starts at 10°C and reaches 25°C by lunch.
