What to Wear in Buenos Aires in February

Pack for Carnival, not the beach. NOAA NCEI's GHCN-Daily record for the Buenos Aires Observatorio, the city-centre station SMN runs, puts February at 28.4°C by day and 18.9°C / 66°F at night, 1.2°C cooler than January on the same record, with rain on about 7 days. The sun still sets after half past seven all month. Argentina's Carnival holidays fall on Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 February 2027, so Saturday 6 opens a four-day weekend, and the murgas play corsos in the barrios on weekend nights. So pack washable cotton and linen in celeste, white and tobacco, one dress for dinner, sandals that buckle and a bag that closes.

   Celeste is the pale sky blue of the Argentine flag, and in linen it is the lightest way to cover your arms between 10 and 17h, the hours the city government's summer advice says to keep out of strong sun. Wear it open over the white tee with the sleeves down at noon. Once the sun drops, just after 8pm on the 1st and at 7:34pm on the 28th, roll the cuffs or knot it at your waist.
